County escapes severe weather
The Moore American
A tornado warning continued until 12:15 a.m. for Cleveland and McClain counties as early Thursday morning began with a bang.
However, despite residents hearing tornado sirens blare on two occasions, Norman stayed out of the worst of the weather.
The storm scraped the east side of Norman shortly after 11 p.m., bringing strong winds, drenching rains and frequent lightning. Storm trackers reported several lowerings but no tornadoes were sighted. Cedar Country firefighters reported an area near 180th Avenue SE and Banner Road without power about 11:10 p.m.
Storm trackers followed several lowered areas, including the Valley Brook area, Lake Stanley Draper, Lake Thunderbird and a brief lowering in the area of Banner Road and about 120th Avenue SE northeast of Slaughterville about 11:25 p.m.
However, no tornadoes were confirmed on the ground at any point from this storm as of 11: 45 p.m.
The storm was accelerating a bit and moving south-southeast at about 20-25 miles per hour. Behind the areas of circulation, heavy rains were falling but quickly moving through.
