Moore had one advantage going into its game Thursday with No. 2 Norman North. The Timberwolves would be playing without their best player Beau Blankenship. The senior tailback was nursing an injured shoulder and forced to sit out the District 6A-1 contest.

Without Blankenship, Moore chances of pulling off the upset increased. Unfortunately for the Lions, even that was enough as North steamrolled MHS 44-0 Thursday at Moore Stadium.

The Lions scoring offensive woes continued against the T-Wolves as they were shutout for the second time this season. They have been outscored 215-18 through five games.

However, for a quarter, Moore kept the game tight against the highly touted Timberwolves (5-0, 2-0 Disitrct 6A-1). They only trailed 6-0 at the end of the first period after two Bryce Easley field goals.

Moore (0-5, 0-2) missed a golden opportunity to get on the scoreboard in the first half after Taylor Gardner hooked up with Ronson Calfy on a 60-yard pass near the end of the first quarter. But they were unable to move the ball any closer and settled for a unsuccessful 38-yard field goal attempt to start the second quarter.

North picked up steam after MHS failed to score. Quarterback Tyler Tettleton hit Hayden Dupell on a 52-yard scoring strike and Chris Riley scampered into the endzone on a 25-yard run to put North up 20-0 at halftime.

Tettleton had a perfect 7-for-7 third quarter and finished 16-of-25 through the air for 221 yards and three touchdowns. He also took over the running duties before the break, finishing with 70 yards on 13 carries.

The T-Wolves put the game away in the third period. Tettleton threw two more touchdown passes and Chris Riley added a another touchdown run. Riley, who had missed the first four games of the season didn’t skip a beat filling in for Blankenship. He had 91 yards on eight carries. As a team the T-Wolves ran for 320 yards, finishing with 521 yards of total offense.

Moore’s offensive highlights were few and far between. Gardner finished 3-of-12 for 76 yards passing. Calfy also saw time under center and was 1-of-12 for 17 yards and an interception.

Senior Trevel Adams didn’t see any action until the fourth quarter, but he made it count, rushing for 25 and 50 yards on his first two carries and rended with 99 yards on 16 carries in the quarter. Moore accounted for 222 total yards.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Lions next week as they try to break into the win column. They face No. 8 Norman North, whose only loss was a 34-26 defeat to the Timberwolves.
