It was quick, but Westmoore got done what it needed. In their season opener, the Jaguars held a 6-1 lead at the end of the fourth inning before the game was called due to the weather.
It has not been declared an official game yet, but Westmoore coach Steve Schwarz saw some good signs out of his squad.
“We did pretty good,” Schwarz said. “We hit the ball well.”
If the game stands as it is, Kaci Quintero will pick up the win. She allowed one hit through four innings.
Quintero also had two hits and a stolen base on the offensive end. But it was Breyonna Phillips who opened up the game for the Jags. She was 3-for-3, with three RBIs and a stolen base.
“We all hit pretty good,” Schwarz said.
The SaberCats got on the board as a results of two errors by the Westmoore defense. It’s a couple of mistakes Schwarz said his team shouldn’t make again.
“It was young kids not going to the right place at the right time,” Schwarz said. “That is part of the game. We will have it fixed the next time.”
After a slow opening week, the Jaguars get busy this week. Games against Norman North and Midwest City opened up the week and a three-game series awaits them at the Lawton Festival Friday and Saturday. Westmoore will face Washington, Lawton MacArthur and Lawton High.
“I just want to see us improve, Schwarz said. “Make as little mistakes as possible. It’s go time. We need to start beating teams and letting them know who we are. I would like to be undefeated at the end of the week.”
If the Jags do not lose this week, a rematch of the state fastpitch championship will take place Aug. 26 when No. 1 ranked Moore travels to Westmoore.
“There is a good chance we both come in undefeated,” Schwarz said. “That is always a good game.”
