The former president of the Moore Public School Board said this week she would seek reelection to her District 4 seat.
Debbie Venard, who has held the seat for 10 years, confirmed Monday she would seek a third term.
“Serving on the school board sorta’ runs in the family,” she said. “My husband, Max, is Career Tech a Center board and he’s going to run again, too.”
Filing period for the school board election opens 8 a.m. Dec.1, and continues until 5 p.m. Dec. 3.
Venard’s husband, Dr. Max Venard, is a member of the Moore Norman Career Tech Center board.
Venard said she decided to seek reelection because there were many things she “wanted to see completed.”
“I want to see the Southmoore High School fully finished,” she said. “I want to see the auditorium and the baseball and softball field houses completed.”
She said construction on Southmoore’s auditorium is expected to be finished in January.
Venard said she also wanted to witness the graduation for the new high school and “celebrate the end of the school year with the students at Southmoore.”
“I’m very interested in education in Moore,” she said. “I have a vested interest.”
Venard said her 19-month-old grandson will soon start pre-school in the district.
“It won’t be long before he will be a Moore public school student,” she said.
While she acknowledged the job was, at times, challenging, Venard said the Moore district has made “great improvements” in its educational services.
“Our school board has a good team,” she said. “And we have a superintendent that is a curriculum expert and works very hard at meeting the needs of the students.”
Additionally, she said officials had worked hard to operate the 159-mile district while dealing with a rocky state economy.
