A pup's best friend

Season Mann managed a pet store in Reno, Nev., and wanted to own her own store. Her husband Weldon worked for WW Steel and when he was transferred to Oklahoma City, she followed and opened Mann's Best Friend.

"It has always been a passion of mine," Season said.

Season runs the store on a full-time basis while Weldon helps out on the weekends. He recently finished the Dallas Cowboy Stadium and is now working on the Freedom Towers in New York City.

The rest of the family included son Weldon III, daughter Alison, three dogs, three cats, chickens and ducks when a rottweiller at a local shelter went into labor. The shelter called the Manns and asked them to adopt another dog.

"They showed us a little girl and we fell in love and decided to adopt Megan," Season said. Now 8-months-old, she is the store dog.

The store sells pet supplies and supplements and healthy food.

"If we wouldn't feed it to our animals we wouldn't sell it to you," Season said.

They also sell breed specific items and all of their meats are canned in Oklahoma and Texas.

Other items include pens, mugs, key chains, socks, dog collars, ribbons, carriers, toys, and the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University harnesses. There are even a few items for cats.

"Every time we come in here we see lots of new stuff," a customer was overheard saying.

One event the pets will not want to miss is yappy hour. Every month, all proceeds from sales that hour are donated to a local rescue unit. The charities change each month. An H2O bar with treats is set up for the dogs and there also are treats for the humans. The next yappy hours are 7 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Dec. 30.

While making a to-do list for the holidays, don't forget the turkey, the gifts, the parties and of course, the pictures of Santa with Fido.

Beginning Nov. 28, Santa will be available at Mann's Best Friend for photos 1-5 Saturday and Sunday until Christmas.

Mann's Best Friend is located at 10600 S. Pennsylvania, Suite 12 in the Chatenay Square Shopping Center. They can be reached at 703-3838 or mannsbestfriend@ coxinet.net.
