Women's seminar today
Learn the essentials about financial matters for business, family and life at a free workshop 9 a.m.-noon today at the Moore Norman Technology Center, Room P210, South Penn Campus, 13301 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Oklahoma City.
In this interactive workshop, participants will learn the difference between cash flow and balance statements, the importance of developing personal and business budgets and how to prepare responsibly for your future and your family's financial future.
Scamproof your business
Assistant District Attorney Rick Sitzman is slated to speak at the Moore Chamber of Commerce, 305 W. Main St., on the topic of white collar crime -- what you need to know to protect your business. The workshop is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in a lunch-and-learn format.
Participants will learn tips to make their small businesses safer from all types of crime. Sitzman will speak on all aspects of check fraud, including forgeries, counterfeit checks, white collar crime, chemical alterations of checks, signs of fraudulent checks and identity theft.
Also on the agenda, a representative from the Moore Police Department will discuss ways to protect yourself and your business from debit and credit card fraud, as well as shoplifting.
Lunch will be provided. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To register, contact the Moore Chamber of Commerce at 794-3400.
People in business
Donna Henson, formerly of Moore, has joined the staff of Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector Steve Burrage.
Henson has returned to Oklahoma from Ohio. Her son William was born at Tinker AFB and raised in Moore. He lives in Colorado with his wife and son Caiden.
Henson said she is thrilled to be back in a milder climate and is ready to cheer on her Sooners.
She is working on her master's degree and has taken the first part of the certified public accounting exam.
New business
Norman-based Equity Realty recently announced the following transactions in Moore:
· TartBerry Inc. leased 1,300 square feet of retail space at 1015 SW 19th St -- the space will be used for a frozen yogurt shop
· Cindy Bui leased 1,620 square feet of retail space at 1700 S. Broadway St., Unit K -- the space will be used for a nail · Hidden Treasures LLC leased 600 square feet of retail space at 2720 Sante Fe Ave. -- the space will be used for a retail store featuring new and used household items and books.
Job fair at Bricktown
In partnership with Workforce Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission will sponsor a Fall Job Fair 10 a.m.?3 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Coca Cola Event Center in Bricktown, 425 California Ave. Free parking is available.
