An Oklahoma City man died early Monday morning following a high-speed chase which ended in Edmond.

Moore Police Department spokesman Sgt. Todd Strickland said Robert N. Brooke, 24, of Oklahoma City died after overturning his pickup early Monday in Edmond following a high-speed chase which started in Moore.

Strickland said the incident began because of a domestic assault result report.

“We were contacted by Oklahoma City police,” Strickland said. “They had taken a report from an 18-year-old female, in reference to a case of domestic assault.”

Oklahoma City officers, Strickland said, escorted the woman to the home of a relative in Moore.

“Oklahoma City police had concerns about the woman and her child’s welfare,” he said. “So we monitored the woman’s address.”

A short time later, Strickland said Moore officers spotted a Silver Ford Ranger pick-up about a block away from the woman’s home.

“That pick-up matched the description of the one given by the woman,” he said. “And, as soon as the officer in the area turned his vehicle around, the driver of the pick-up accelerated and raced out of the area.”

The driver then led police on a high speed chase from Moore to Edmond.

“We attempted to make contact with Mr. Brooke, at which point he led us on a pursuit,” he said. Strickland said police from Oklahoma City and Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers also were involved in the chase, which at one point, reached speeds between 90 and 100 miles per hour.

“Around North 36th Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard, Oklahoma City police deployed a stop stick.” The device, which has spikes that flatten a vehicle’s tires, penetrated the pick-up tires but Brooke, Strickland said, “kept driving after his tires were flat.”

At some point Brooke attempted to make a turn and flipped the pick-up.

Strickland said Brooke was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
